Business Overview
LISC launched its Charter School Financing (CSF) program in 2003 to expand access to quality education in underinvested communities. As one of the nation’s largest community development organizations, LISC recognizes that strong schools are essential to neighborhood stability and opportunity.
Through CSF, LISC provides a full range of facility financing, from predevelopment to acquisition and construction loans, to help charter schools grow and thrive. Since 1997, LISC has invested $510 million in loans, tax credit allocations, guarantees, and grants to support 260 charter schools across 31 states, helping to create more than 107,000 charter school seats. LISC also conducts research and provides technical assistance on facility financing best practices, state policies and federal policies and disseminates this information through its SchoolBuild research portal.

LISC offers flexible financing solutions to help charter schools at every stage of facility development, from predevelopment to permanent loans. Our products include acquisition, construction, bridge, and mini-permanent financing, as well as recoverable grants for early project costs and New Markets Tax Credits through our affiliate, the Broadstreet.
In addition to lending, we conduct and publish research on facility financing best practices via our various publications, and technical assistance through SchoolBuild, our online resource that guides school leaders through planning, financing, and development to ensure every project’s success.
